FRIENDS OF INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS AND BETTER EDUCATION About FRISBEFriends of Independent Schools and Better Education (FRISBE) was established nearly forty years ago by alumni of Canadian independent schools. As U.S. residents, these alumni saw an opportunity to establish FRISBE for the benefit of Canadian independent schools in order to facilitate fundraising for such schools in the U.S.FRISBE is a Washington State non-profit corporation with IRC Section 501(c)(3) status that promotes and encourages educational institutions that emphasize scholarship, sportsmanship, moral character, individual responsibility and initiative. It supports the activities of such institutions principally through grantmaking activities which are funded by charitable contributions to FRISBE from the general public.Individual contributors usually request that FRISBE make grants to specific educational institutions. All contributed funds are under the direction and control of its Board of Directors, and it is FRISBE’s policy not to accept any contribution that requires a grant to a specific institution. However, where FRISBE’s Board of Directors determines that a grant to a named institution will further FRISBE’s charitable purpose, the donor’s request will be honored. Organizations that receive FRISBE grants must qualify as Canadian registered charities under Canadian law. How It WorksUpon receiving each donation, FRISBE mails the donor a receipt, which can be used to substantiate a tax deduction for a charitable contribution on the donor’s IRS tax return. If the donor specifies an educational institution to which it would like the FRISBE Board of Directors to consider making a grant, FRISBE also notifies that institution. The FRISBE Board of Directors meets twice each year to consider grants. At its March meeting, it considers grants based on the contributions received between July 1 and December 31 of the prior year. At its September meeting, it considers grants based on the contributions it received between January 1 and June 30 of the current year. Educational institutions that are approved for FRISBE grants are mailed checks in US dollars following each board meeting.Because FRISBE is entirely operated by its Board of Director volunteers, it does not take any fees for its services, other than fees associated with inbound donation transactional costs (credit card fees, etc).--"A man of humanity is one who...desiring attainment for himself, helps others to attain."–ConfuciusHow to DonateClick here to donate now by credit card.* Mail a check payable to "FRISBE": 117 East Louisa Street #533 Seattle, WA 98102 U.S.A.Email us (frisbe@frisbe.org) to request our financial institution's wire transfer or stock transfer instructions. IMPORTANT: However you choose to make your donation, please be sure to include your name, mailing address and any requests for use of the funds you would like FRISBE's Board of Directors to consider, such as the school to which you would like the funds granted and how you would like the school to use the funds.---*There is a 2.9% transaction fee for credit card donations; donors will receive a receipt for the the gross amount of the transaction, but the amount considered for grants will be net of this transaction fee.---For more information about FRISBE, please email us at frisbe@frisbe.org
