AIMPOWER Mission: Research, develop, and advocate for technologies to benefit minority and marginalized populations. Activities include: 1. Research and identify technological challenges experienced by certain communities, such as research to uncover systematic issues for people who stutter in speech-related technologies and telecommunication systems; 2. Evaluate existing technologies, especially technologies powered by machine learning and artificial intelligence, to understand their performances and gaps for people who stutter; 3. Design and create technical solutions to close the experience and performance gap in existing technologies for the stuttering community, making existing technologies more accessible and accommodating to users who stutter; 4. Develop general recommendations and guidelines for accessible speech and telecommunication technologies; 5. Advise, mentor, and support the stuttering community as well as other disability communities on technical issues.
