BACH AKADEMIE CHARLOTTE Historically informed. Thoroughly modern. Founded in 2017 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Bach Charlotte is a professional instrumental and vocal ensemble that uses historically informed performance practices to explore the music and influential legacy of Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750). With an emphasis on Baroque and Early Music, our nationally-renowned musicians perform live concerts to Charlotte-area audiences with technical virtuosity and interpretive flair. About Historically Informed Performance (HIP) Using historically-informed performance practices means our instrumentalists use period instruments and tuning, and our vocalists use period-appropriate techniques. It is also an opportunity to revisit the original inspiration for the music and to present it in engaging, vibrant performances that breathe new life into old works. Pieces you’ve heard many times before can feel like astonishing new discoveries. By capturing the sights and sounds of another age and introducing them afresh to our modern world, we engage you in a sound world that you might not have expected—but one that you can’t get enough of once you’ve experienced it live.
