For over a quarter-century, the Orchard, as a non-profit organization, has diligently worked to “save the good stuff”—regional traditions, culture, and land on which all was created. PRESERVEhistory, heritage, & culture PROTECTland, apples, wetlands, butterflies As a preservation orchard, with some trees nearly 100 years old and still producing, we propagate the best heirloom apples possible (with the least chemicals), create a pollinator-friendly environment, and host activities for all ages that educate, enlighten, and entertain. We hope you’ll visit our general store; take a walk through the fields; pick apples in season; stand on our back deck and watch the barn swallows prepare to welcome new family members; sit at one of our picnic tables and have a bite with a view; read about our history; enjoy live music on our pavilion; or just hang out, surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains. We’re not a commercial orchard—we offer experiences and a look into what makes this piece of the Blue Ridge memorable. Spend an hour or an afternoon with us at the family- and pet-friendly Orchard at Altapass. EDUCATEabout the Appalachian experience In 2023, PBS North Carolina shot some spectacular footage and assembled a video story on our region’s conservation needs and efforts. We invite you to spend a few moments enjoying the beautiful landscape as we share our passion to “Save The Good Stuff,” and continue our work to preserve, protect, and educate. It’s now available on YouTube— State of Change. We thank PBS NC for their work and their appreciation. TALK TO USHave questions?
