Central Virginia Burn Camp Home Building Confidence. Creating Memories. Inspiring Hope Your browser does not support the video tag.Home The Central Virginia Burn Camp was founded in March of 1994 with the assistance of State and Local Firefighters to provide a safe, fun and rewarding summer camp experience for young burn survivors. We just celebrated our 30th Camp Week this summer. Camp is located at Camp Holiday Trails in Charlottesville, Virginia. This special overnight camp is designed to meet the psychosocial and physical needs of our campers while they participate in fun summer activities with others who have gone through a similar experience, without the stares and questions that may accompany them throughout the rest of their year. Camp is free of charge to children between the ages of 7-17. Counselors and staff all volunteer their time to run camp, and include firefighters, Occupational & Physical Therapists, nurses, adult burn survivors and other well-trained volunteers. Camp activities include a team-building challenge course, zipline, sports, arts and crafts, swimming, fishing, canoeing, archery, horseback riding, campfires, a carnival, singing, dancing, and special activities and off-site trips that highlight our camp theme each Summer. The camp’s positive, supportive environment helps young survivors continue to heal physically and emotionally while making friends and participating in activities that increase confidence and self-esteem, helping them realize they are not alone with their burn scars.
