ABOUT US Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness is dedicated to the care, protection and preservation of sight through programs that support research, better living with low vision, and community education. One of Lurie Children’s Hospital’s patients—a three-year-old girl with a very strong prescription of over +9 diopters and significant astigmatism—could barely see the world around her. Her family, who doesn’t speak English and couldn’t afford glasses, had been unable to find anyone who could fill her prescription. Through ISPB’s support, she received her first pair of glasses in November 2023. Her mother said they were completely life changing. When the glasses were later lost at the beach, the family was devastated, knowing they couldn’t afford to replace them before preschool began. Thanks to our generous donors, ISPB was able to provide a second pair right away. When she put on her new glasses, her face lit up—she looked around in amazement, smiling from ear to ear before hugging her provider tightly. Her joy brought both her mother and the provider to tears. The provider said to us that “the services you provide are truly life changing and I’m so very grateful to be able to help patients like this in need, thanks to ISPB”. Stories like this remind us how truly important clear vision can be. Making an Impact in Illinois Impact facts: Over $2 million in research grants distributed since 1980. $50,000 annually given to fund low vision equipment and youth replacement glasses. Thousands of community members educated about eye health and safety each year. EVENTS 0 events found. There are no upcoming events. There are no upcoming events.
