BIRD SCHOOL PROJECT We connect students with their environment. “ "Bird School Project inspired me to learn more about birds. Now, I frequently go bird watching and I'm building a bird house! You all are awesome!" ” — 7th grade student, Aptos Junior High 2017 “ I really liked the life science unit most notably for giving students relevant skills they can apply to the rest of their life: keeping a field journal entry, questioning and hypothesizing, observing closely, enjoying nature, learning to identify birds. ” — 7th grade science teacher, Aptos Junior High School “ “I thought it was great! It gave the students a chance to really explore the natural world around them. I think oftentimes people take what’s right around them for granted, so this gave them a chance to slow down and notice!” ” — 5th grade teacher, Bay View Elementary “ “You presented an enriching program that allowed students to look at the world around them in a new light.” ” — 7th grade science teacher, New Brighton Middle School Since 2014, we have helped over 7,000 students engage with their local environment. When we connect deeply with what is right outside our door, the desire to learn about and protect the environment grows. Learn about our work and join us! What is Our School?Using binoculars, field journals, and museum study specimens from UCSC’s Ken Norris Center for Natural History, The Bird School Project visits schools in the Monterey Bay area and makes it possible for students to foster awareness, knowledge, and love for local natural places through bird watching just outside their classroom door.Learn More → Our ImpactWhen we make the space and provide the resources for students to learn from the outdoor world, we open a new channel of insight and understanding.
