COMMUNITY MORTGAGE LENDERS OF AMERICA INC Our Mission > Your Voice, Your Advocate, Your Future THE Community Mortgage Lenders of America is the only Washington, DC-based Association dedicated solely to strong, effective representation of mid-size and small, independent mortgage lenders, banks, and credit unions that provide home financing to local home buyers. THE CMLA ensures the concerns of our members are heard as policy makers address pivotal issues in housing finance policy and regulation. The 2007-08 financial crisis led to a massive amount of new regulation spurred particularly by the Dodd Frank Act. These regulations have had a disproportionate impact on small and mid-size community-based independent lenders, who do not have large lending volumes to spread their fixed compliance costs. Regulatory reform, to reduce those compliance costs and keep them in check once reduced, is the principal priority for THE CMLA, closely followed by maintaining open access and a level competitive playing field for mid-size and small independent lenders.
