Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks Inc Recent Attacks on Refugee Ministries: On Sunday, February 2, 2025, Lutheran Services Carolinas (LSC) was attacked by Elon Musk and Mike Flynn on social media, primarily for its refugee ministry. Prior to this, the Catholic Church’s refugee services were targeted, and Church World Services faced similar attacks. It is rumored that Jewish refugee services will be the next target. All these organizations perform vital and respectable work in their communities. Our Mission and Broader Threats: LSC serves as the hands and feet of Christ and government, caring for vulnerable elders, families, and children. While today’s attacks focus on our refugee services, the broader threat includes health care, mental health services, and other essential programs. We need to be prepared as nothing is safe from these threats. Transparency and Accountability: LSC is an open book. Our website shares detailed information about all our services, along with our audits and IRS filings, which are publicly accessible. The truth is easily available for those who seek it. LSC also carries the 2024 Platinum Transparency seal from Candid. Community Support: LSC relies not only on federal and state funding but receives private donations to support the mission. LSC has built a diverse network of funding streams and will continue to do so during these difficult times. Please encourage partners and community members to assist LSC financially. Continuing to diversify our funding streams will make us stronger. Partnerships and Collaborations: LSC has a long history of working with federal and state governments on health and human services. We are the extension of the government, and programs are highly regulated, and we must account for every dollar granted through federal and state grants. Financial Stability: LSC has worked diligently to diversify its funding. However, we do rely on federal and state support. The New Americans Program constitutes only about 10 percent of our overall budget and will not impact other programs within our organization. This current suspension only affects LSC’s Reception & Placement Program, part of the New Americans Program. Our other programs that serve refugees and immigrants remain intact. You Can Help: Stand up for integrity, honesty, and truth in your community and among your networks. Reach out to your United States Senator and Member of Congress and ask them to take a stand against hate and fear. See www.LSCarolinas.net for more advocacy information.
