BARRETT MEMORIAL HALL Barrett Memorial HallBarrett Memorial Hall is a 501(c)3 charitable organization, which serves as a focal point for community events and private gatherings in the Town of Strafford. The hall was donated to his native town by Curtis Sawyer Barrett, in memory of his parents, in 1897. The original hall burned down and was replaced by the current building in 1939. Barrett Hall is administered by a four-member Board of Trustees. The current board consists of: Sonya Schumacher and Maureen "Moe" Wilson (secretary and calendar), David McWilliams (treasurer) and Stephen Marx (Building Overseer). The hall’s work is supported by a modest endowment, economical rental fees, and the generosity of townspeople and users. Barrett Hall is located at the intersection of Route 132 and Justin Morrill Highway in South Strafford. (Physical address: 248 VT Rte 132; mailing address: PO Box 224, South Strafford VT 05070.) A two-story Greek Revival edifice, the hall contains an upper-level auditorium (capacity of 200) with a small stage, and a lower-level dining room (capacity of 100) with kitchen and adjacent restrooms. The hall is accessible to everyone via a small lift for less-mobile visitors. Barrett Hall is the auditorium for Newton School, the Strafford Senior Center, the scene of public forums, exercise classes, dances, weddings, funerals, luncheons and dinners, church services, fundraisers for many town organizations, an ARC-certified emergency shelter—well, you get the idea!
